Lake Michigan Beach Glass, LLC
Purveyors of genuine beach glass from the shores of Lake Michigan & beyond.
Any day at the beach is a good day! An even better day is finding a glistening "jewel" on the sand which we know as beach glass, or sea glass to others.
The adrenaline rushes, because if there is one, here begins the hunt for more. It's an addiction for those of us who enjoy beach walking and searching for the treasures it bears. We spend hours at it and the feeling is truly exhilarating.
Beach glass or sea glass forms from glass bottles, jars, windows, etc. that has been tumbled and smoothed by the waves, water and sand, creating smooth frosted shards of glass varying in color, shape and size.
The most common colors are green, brown and white. Less common colors are purple, citron, opaque white, cobalt, and cornflower blue. Extremely rare colors include pink, gray, black, yellow, turquoise, red, and orange.
Once we are lucky enough to find these special treasures, the analyizing begins. Is it frosty on one side, shiny on the other? Are the edges soft and well worn? If not, it's back to the water for more tumbling and maybe one day it will again become the perfect jewel of the sea for someone's collection.
Beach or sea glass is becoming less common and harder to find because fewer things are made out of glass. Bearing this in mind makes the hunt even greater for the collector in all of us.
All of our beach glass or sea glass is discovered, hand picked and sorted by us. We travel the Great Lakes, Mexico, and the Caribbean by boat and on foot to find these treasures. We've walked hours and hours and explored areas only accessible by boat so a lot of our collection is unique. As such, each piece should be considered "one of a kind".
